What is the BEST alternative to tutoring?

What is the BEST alternative to tutoring?

Let me guess. Some one told you that you should probably “get a tutor” for your teen?

I hear this advice given to parents ALL. The. Time.

When you ask your child’s teacher what more you can do to help your teen, they tell you that you should just get a tutor.

But, if you’ve looked into getting a tutor, you know that it’s not that easy!

First, isn’t it the teachers job to teach my kid? Why should I have to spend extra to get a tutor to do your job??

Second, tutoring can be Crazy expensive! Ain’t nobody got time (or money) for that!

So what can you do to find a better alternative to tutoring?

How the school system is letting your teen down

How the school system is letting your teen down

If you are a parent wit ha teen that is struggling in school, you may feel like the school system is letting your teen down.

You may feel like:

  • No matter how much you try to help your teen, they just don’t “get it”

  • when you ask for a little extra help from the teen’s teachers, you are met with: “just work harder”, or “get a tutor”

  • when you are seeking extra help from the teacher, they inevitably place the additional burden of teaching on you

  • when you ask what more the school can do for your child, you are not given sufficient support or answers

If you can relate, then you are not alone!

The truth is: the school system really is letting your teen down! And here is how!

To the parents of teens, you are enough! Here's why!

To the parents of teens, you are enough! Here's why!

As a high school tutor, I have seen many parents of teens and preteens struggle with deciding which is the best way to help their teen in school.

Plenty of parents feel tired, worn out, and exhausted with the constant battle between supporting their teen in school, and meeting resistance from their teen.

You try so hard!

  • You try helping your teen with homework

  • You try to encourage them to study more

  • You try to help them understand how important their grades are.

  • You try to help them focus on the benefits of learning

You try everything you can to help, only to be met with an eye roll, ignored, or another battle over homework.

No matter how hard you try, you just don’t feel like you are making any progress, or seeing the fruits of your labor.

Why Parents of Teens need support too!

Why Parents of Teens need support too!

Let me ask you, do you have good support around you?

Do you have any support system around you?

If you are a parent of a teen then you NEED a good support system and a good parent support group!

Parenting is HARD! Teens can be SO rough on parents!

We pour and pour our love, support, and encouragement into them, only to be left feeling completely dry ourselves!

So I’d love to know! Do you have a support group?

Tired of fighting with your teen over schoolwork?

Tired of fighting with your teen over schoolwork?

I have seen it many times!

Parents ask their teens teens how they are doing in school, if they have completed homework, or if they studied for their next test.

But every time you ask, you are met with resistance.

You only want to make sure that they are staying on top of their assignments, but they are resistant to your help.

The questions lead to resistance, which leads to frustration, which leads to fights. For some parents, the fighting becomes a nightly struggle as it becomes the battle of wills.

So many parents come to me and tell me “I’m just SO tired of the fighting!”

How to inspire a love of reading in your teen

How to inspire a love of reading in your teen

If your teen is like many teens in high school, having a love of reading is not too high on their list of priorities.

Most high school students are forced to read hundreds of pages from textbooks every week. After reading page after page of “boring” text, why would they be inspired to read anything for “fun”.

I believe that everyone should develop a love of reading!

I believe we as parents have a responsibility to our kids to teach them to be life long learners. And the best way for anyone to be a self learner is through reading new information.
