3 Common Barriers to Our Learning Potential

Learning something new is never an easy thing. Some people find it easier to learn something new because they've been conditioned in the right way and understand how to learn. Some find it a very overwhelming thing for a variety of reasons. We can all have obstacles that stop us from learning effectively, so let's show you some common barriers and what you can do about them.

Lack of Confidence

We have grown up in a world where anything less than perfection is considered a failure. When we have a test result that's less than our friend’s, it can either spark healthy competition or make us feel like we are inadequate. A lack of confidence can then spiral into other things like mental health anguish and anxiety. Sometimes we can look at the school as the root cause. There are more specialized schools out there such as the Alpine Academy Utah that can help. The number of positive Alpine Academy Utah reviews that show it as a holistic environment that supports learning and development, as well as well-being, can be critical.

In order to boost your confidence, you might want to start applying for academic scholarships. There is nothing more rewarding and confidence boosting than seeing that colleges and programs want to pay for you to study based on your grades. You could look into applying for scholarships for cybersecurity graduate students  if you have already been through college but are struggling with confidence now, or whatever your field of interest is.

Not everybody is fortunate enough to be able to change schools, however, once we start to recognize that confidence is a barrier, we could start to use more actionable tools to improve our confidence. This can be as simple as getting away from perfection. The problem in a school environment is that when someone appears to get perfect marks, this creates an unsustainable approach to learning because they will constantly have to keep bettering themselves.

Not Understanding Their Learning Style

Many people go through school thinking they have to read textbooks but the reality is that everybody learns differently. There are different learning styles, for example, kinesthetic, auditory, and visual, but there are a number of other subgroups here. Taking a test to find out your learning style could help you to tailor your learning resources more effectively.

Sometimes, we can struggle in a classroom setting because of a lack of confidence which can impact our ability to concentrate but when we then attempt to learn in a way that is not conducive to us, we start to feel the walls closing in. When you understand what your learning style is, you will be able to come up with better ways to retain the information. This could mean recording classes or more effective note-taking.

Feeling Neglected

We can feel neglect in a number of ways. It could be at home, it could also be in the classroom where we're not having our needs met, but it could also be emotional neglect in terms of our social groups. The fact is that homeschooling can help here because it helps many people learn what is needed, while also having a more tailored classroom structure to fill in the gaps that traditional education cannot provide.

While we can feel neglected in ourselves, it's important to speak up if we do feel like this. If we're not having our needs met we should speak to our parents or we should attempt to go to the root of the issue, such as the head of the school.
