Despite the name, back pack organization is actually not very organized at all!
As a tutor for over 10 years, I have seen many students and teens try to use their backpacks to hold everything! From homework, to schoolwork, to class notes, to detention slips, to chewing gum, to everything else!
And yet, every time, they lose their homework or class notes to the very bottom of their backpack, never to be seen again!
The first time this hit me as a serious problem that affects so many students, is when I was working with a student on homework.
After an hour of us working on this assignment together, the student put the homework in his backpack. The next tutoring session we had, I asked him how he did on the assignment and what grade he got.
He responded, “I don’t know. I never turned it in.”
I was SHOCKED!!
After working together for over an hour, he didn’t even turn it in!
I asked him why not. He said, “I couldn’t find it in my backpack.”
After both of us spending so much time, energy, resources, and money (parents were paying for a tutor), he didn’t even turn it in!
After working on that assignment for over an hour, he got the same grade as another student that didn’t even do the homework at all!
From that day forward, I made sure he never used his “backpack organization” ever again!
On that very day, I created an organization system for him to use so that nothing would ever be lost again!
