How to tell if your child needs a tutor

SO often, I tell parents how much students DO NOT need a tutor. (Coming from a 12 year tutor). I tell parents that 9 times out of 10, your student won’t need a tutor.

So how does a parent know whether or not their child needs a tutor to do better in school?

Here is why your child may not need a tutor:

  1. Tutoring can get expensive. Spending that kind of money on grades may not be whats best for the whole family.

  2. Tutoring does NOT solve the real problem.

Getting a tutor for your child or teen may help them in school, but a tutor will not solve the missing piece to the underlying problem. Which is why your child continues to struggle in school year after year.

And why your child will continue to struggle should you no longer hire that tutor. (Meaning your child’s grades will slip if they are not working one on one again).

So what is the REAL problem?

The real problem is, that your child or student does not have the skills they need in order to do well in school.

If your child had the skills they need to do well in school, then they would not need a tutor year after year.

How to tell if your child needs a tutor

Here is how to tell if your child actually needs a tutor:

If your child is struggling to do well in 3 or more classes: Does NOT Need a Tutor

If your child is struggling in only 1 class: Might Need a Tutor

So now your thinking, “If my child is struggling in 1 class, then they might need a tutor, but if they are struggling in multiple classes, then they don’t need a tutor. How does that make sense??”

Here me out.

If your child is struggling in a few classes or most of their classes. then there is an underlying problem. They lack the essential skills they need to do well in school!

By teaching your child or teen the essential skills that they need for school, you can equip them to take on any academic challenge, and avoid the need for a tutor now or in the future!

By learning these essential skills for school, your child will have the tools they need for every class, so that they will no longer struggle in their classes across the board.

But, if your child only struggles to learn in 1 class, then it could mean that they might need a tutor.

Every student will find a subject or class that they struggle with once in a while. So if you have a student that generally does well in every class, then they may benefit by having a tutor help them with just the one specific topic that they continue to struggle with.
