Where to begin to help your child in school, when you have no idea where to start?

Where to begin to help your child in school, when you have no idea where to start?

A Parent asked me the other day, “You give so much good information on how to help my child in school, but I have no idea where to start!”

Great questions!

She told me, “My boys will get home from school, and will only want to play on electronics. They don’t listen when I ask them to do homework or study. And I have no idea where to get started.”

Where to begin when you don’t have any idea where to start

First, she says that her boys will play electronics before doing homework or studying. This is SO common, as many parents face this problem.

How to motivate your child to have responsible behavior

How to motivate your child to have responsible behavior

As an academic mentor, one of the most common questions I get all the time is, “How do I motivate my child?”

Parents may ask me:

  • How do I motivate my teen to do their homework?

  • How do I motivate my child to get better grades?

  • How do I motivate my kid to study?

  • How do I motivate my teen to WANT to do better in school?

So I knew this was a topic that so many parents need support!

I had the privilege of interviewing parenting expert, Rachel Bailey, as she talks about how to motivate responsible behavior without the nagging and yelling!

Moms! Which Parent is responsible for your child's academics?

Moms! Which Parent is responsible for your child's academics?

I asked this question inside our parent support group the other day, and one parent jokingly responded, “It’s my kids responsibility”.

First off, I totally agree!

It should be our students responsibility to do their homework, study, do well on tests, and keep their grades up.

But what happens when their grades start to slip? What happens when our kids are struggling to do well in school, and don’t know how to ask for help?

Which parent is expected to step up and jump in to create a plan of success for your child to bring those grades back up? Is it mom’s responsibility or is it Dad’s job?

Who’s job is it to track when the grades are getting low?

Who’s job is it to find the area of learning struggle to help fix the problem?

Who’s job is it to answer a homework question?

Who’s job is it to help your child study for their next test if they ask for help?

Who’s job is it to communicate with the teacher to find a better solution?

If you are a parent that is looking for a place of support for your child’s academics then this is the PERFECT place to be!

So many times, parents are looking for support for their child in school, but they feel disconnected with their child’s teachers and their school. Sometimes it can feel like the school system is against you!

Maybe you have been looking for academic support, and are considering hiring a tutor for your child. . .

As a former tutor for over 10 years, I can say, Do NOT hire a tutor!!

Tutoring is expensive and does NOT solve the underlying problems that your child or teen is facing in school.

Does your child use backpack organization?

Does your child use backpack organization?

Has your child or teen ever lost homework or schoolwork after placing it “carefully” inside their backpack?

Has your child ever spent time and energy on working on homework, and then never turned it in because they “lost in” after placing it inside their backpack?

And then getting a ZERO for the homework assignment, because they couldn’t turn it in??

Then your child may use “backpack organization”.
